Magee

The Woeful Cat

We first met Magee in July of 2003. While on vacation in Lavallette, NJ, at the Jersey Shore, we were confronted by a strangely friendly street cat. Scrawny and filthy, he took a shine to us immediately.

We spent a good portion of our week at the shore hiding from Magee. Whenever he would see one of us, he would perk right up, want to be played with and rubbed, and would follow us around. He would come to our vacation house and cry at the window. Others on the street were not so amicable. Our landlord wanted to trap him. Other vacationers would kick him and yell at him. A woman down the street was casually feeding him, but otherwise he was alone in the world.

By the end of the week, we all knew it. This little guy deserved better. He was so sweet and friendly, he couldn't possibly survive past the summer on the street. So with much hesitation, he hitched a ride back home with us on July 12, 2003.

The vet weighed him at only 11 pounds, and estimated he was maybe 2 years old. He had been altered at some point in the past, leaving us to conclude he was a pet that had been abandoned.

So we cleaned him up, fed him well, and taught him how to be a cat. It took several years for him to become comfortable in his new home, but he is now happy and comfortable as can be. He has been a wonderful friend and companion through all of life's trials and tribulations.

It's true what they say... You don't choose a pet, the pet chooses you.
